    Kenya’s drive toward a secure and inclusive digital future took focus at the Cardano Africa Tech Summit 2026 in Nairobi, where government leaders urged closer collaboration between innovators and regulators. Senior Deputy Data Commissioner Oscar Otieno stressed the importance of tech entrepreneurs registering with the government and prioritising data protection, noting that compliance is far less costly than enforcement. He added that authorities will conduct assessments to ensure adherence to cybersecurity and data protection standards. ICT Secretary Mary Kerema announced that Kenya is finalising its national digital identity plan to ensure inclusivity, emphasising that trust and innovation must advance together. She noted that digital transformation is a shared responsibility between government and the private sector. The summit underscored Kenya’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for youth and innovators as the country accelerates its digital economy agenda.
