Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has unveiled major infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the Port of Mombasa, including an Sh8.3 billion transport interchange that is now 50% complete and a newly commissioned Sh1 billion Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTMIS). KPA Managing Director Capt. William Ruto says the transport interchange, expected to be completed by March 2027, will ease congestion, improve cargo movement and strengthen connectivity between the port and the Northern Corridor. He defended the project's cost, describing it as a complex engineering development that includes a 704-metre elevated viaduct, dual carriageway, roundabouts, ramps and critical utility relocations.
