Community leaders in Kwale County have called on Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho to hold dialogue with coastal communities to ensure they directly benefit from Kenya's Blue Economy agenda. Speaking in Lunga Lunga, KADU Asili party leader Mudzo wa Nzili said coastal youth continue to face unemployment despite the region's rich marine resources.
The leaders also raised concerns over fisheries management, Kenya Ports Authority recruitment, land disputes in Kwale and Kilifi, the implementation of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), and delays in cash transfers for the elderly. They urged Coast leaders to unite in addressing historical injustices and ensuring local communities benefit from fisheries, mining, and marine investments.
