Leaders across the political divide have marked this year's Saba Saba Day with reflections on Kenya's democratic journey, as the anniversary was commemorated on a relatively low-key note. ODM leader Dr. Oburu Odinga has urged the government to gazette Saba Saba Day as a national holiday in recognition of the sacrifices made and the democratic gains achieved since the historic 1990 pro-democracy movement. Meanwhile, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP leader Martha Karua and Safina leader Jimi Wanjigi criticised the government, accusing it of undermining the freedoms and democratic gains that Saba Saba sought to secure. Stephen Letoo reports.
