A new labour market report has revealed that nearly four in ten young people in Mombasa are unemployed and actively looking for work, raising concerns over the widening gap between education and industry needs.
The Mombasa County Future of Work Report, launched by Mizizi Elimu Afrika in partnership with the Global Development Incubator (GDI), SwahiliPot Hub Foundation and the Mombasa County Government, found that 38.8% of youth are unemployed, while only 19.4% are in formal employment. The report also highlights the growing importance of digital skills, despite widespread access to smartphones and the internet.
