Home-based childcare providers in Murang’a County are calling on the county government to recognize and support their role in early childhood development. The caregivers, who mainly operate in rural areas under the Home-Based Childcare (HBCC) programme, currently provide care for more than 6,000 children aged between zero and three years. Supported by Nurture First and the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a, the programme has empowered over 1,200 caregivers. However, stakeholders say increased government support, standardized licensing, and budget allocation are needed to improve service delivery and strengthen the sector.
