NEMA enforces Law on EPR Contentious Costs on Packaging amidst Court battle

Law on Extended Producer Responsibility Contentious Charges on commodity packaging enforced amidst court showdown. Kenya Manufacturers have maintained a call on the government to reconsider the move to enforce the law on charges of products and packaging subject to the extended producer responsibility compliance scheme. The section of the law on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) enforcement materialized after the high court lifted conservatory orders, which had granted manufacturers temporary immunity from compliance requirements when a case was filed alleging charges considered exorbitant. Manufacturers will now have to pay the hefty costs on commodities and packaging pending a full hearing of the case by manufacturers seeking court intervention to have the costs revised.
