The nine people who perished in a suspected arson attack a fortnight ago in Siaya County have finally been laid to rest at Upanda village in Sigomere sub-location, Ugunja sub-county. Sombre mood engulfed the air as a section of mourners wailed loudly when a convoy of vehicles carrying nine coffins with the charred remains of the late Richard Ouma Opondo, his wife Jacinta Anyango and seven children snaked their way to Ninga primary school grounds where the funeral service was held. Leaders present, led by Siaya Deputy Governor, William Oduol, called for speedy investigations into the matter. The man, his wife, and their seven children were asleep when their house was set ablaze by unknown individuals on April 23 this year.
