ODM backs Oburu Odinga as leader amid deepening party divisions

The Orange Democratic Movement party's Special Delegates Conference has formally endorsed Dr. Oburu Odinga as the party leader. The NDC held at the Jamhuri Showgrounds saw the party strip Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi of his deputy party leader position, leaving it vacant. Party leaders warned that the ongoing cooperation would be terminated should UDA make forays into ODM strongholds. Party rebels under the Linda Mwananchi faction, led by Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino and James Orengo, kept away from the meeting. EALA MP Winnie Odinga, however, attended the Jamhuri Showgrounds NDC and called for inclusion of party members.
