Ol Kalou revives Nyandarua's history of defying governments

Nyandarua County has once again reinforced its reputation as a political battleground where sitting governments struggle to capture opposition strongholds. Thursday's Ol Kalou by-election echoed the 1995 Kipipiri contest, when efforts by the then KANU administration to win an opposition-held seat ended in defeat. From the KANU–DP rivalry of 1995 to the UDA–DCP contest of 2026, the county has continued to produce fiercely contested elections shaped by enduring political rivalries.
