Opposition coalition calls for scrapping of national tallying centre

A section of the opposition, dubbed the People’s Coalition on Electoral Reforms, wants the national tallying centre scrapped in the 2027 General Election, arguing that it is unconstitutional. The coalition, led by former Chief Justice David Maraga, says votes tallied at constituency tallying centres should be final. The coalition is also calling on the IEBC to overhaul its election technology, audit the voters’ register, and ensure all election equipment is fully functional. Melita Oletenges reports.
