According to Njoro Sub-County Police Commander Nelson Koech, officers raided the premises after receiving a distress call from one of the girls. The girls told police they had been confined at the house for months, assaulted and threatened whenever they asked about their travel arrangements, and forced to live in overcrowded and unhygienic conditions. Authorities say the facility had been operating as a hostel for people seeking jobs abroad run by a foreign employment agency, but some of its licences expired in December 2025. Police have since ordered its closure, while lawyers representing the operators say they will challenge the decision in court.
