President Ruto assures completion of Bukhungu Stadium ahead of AFCON 2027

President William Ruto has assured residents of Kakamega County that the construction of Bukhungu Stadium will be completed by December 2026, in readiness for the AFCON 2027, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, will co-host the 36th edition of the tournament. The President was speaking at the fourth edition of the Governor’s Cup held at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County. Kakamega Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa noted that the tournament plays a critical role in nurturing grassroots talent and strengthening sports development in the county. In the men’s final, Lugusi FC from Malava emerged champions after edging out Mbaabo FC from Khwisero by a solitary goal.
