The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, has defended the social health authority following public complaints that cancer patients are currently paying for treatment. Oluga says 95 percent of patients under SHA receive cancer care for free, adding that only a few cases exceed the benefit limit and require top-ups. He urged Kenyans not to generalize isolated cases, saying the government continues to review the packages to ensure all patients get affordable and quality treatment.
