Concerns have been raised over the acute shortage of teachers in rural schools, with calls for the ministry of education to redistribute staff and address the imbalance.
Speaking in Trans Nzoia county, the speaker of the national assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, said the shortage is unjustified given that over 100,000 teachers have recently been employed, and 20,000 more are set to be recruited in June and July. Wetangula attributed the situation to uneven staff distribution, with many teachers preferring urban postings. At the same time, leaders who attended the event urged the political class to stop divisive politics and promote unity and cohesion.
