The State Department for Sports has asked the parliamentary sports committee for support in securing an additional one billion shillings as the existing budgetary allocations for the state department are inadequate to facilitate sports programmes and activities. The department also has pending bills of 1.4 billion shillings accured before 2023 with another 44 million shillings bill yet to be settled. Sports principal secretary elijah mwangi told the committee that even the 3.9 billion shillings hosting fees for the africa cup of nations has not been factored in in the 2025/2026 financial year budget estimates.
