Steel manufacturers are calling for reforms to unlock Kenya's idle production capacity and improve the industry's competitiveness. Speaking at the East African Steel Summit in Nairobi, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers said the sector is operating at just over a third of its installed capacity due to high production costs, substandard imports and an unpredictable business environment. Manufacturers say addressing these challenges will boost local production, reduce reliance on imports and position Kenya to meet growing demand driven by infrastructure and housing projects.
