Stranded student forced to become herdsman despite KCSE success

A 21-year-old aspiring medic from Cheptalat village in Konoin constituency in Kericho County has been forced to become a herder after his hopes of joining a medical school were shattered due to a lack of tuition fees. Vincent Chepkwony, who attained a C+ in 2024’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and posted an impressive B-, secured a place at the Kenya Medical Training College to pursue a Diploma in Pharmacy. Chepkwony, however, has been unable to raise the required tuition owing to his needy background, and has been forced to become a herds boy in a nearby village.
