The magistrate's court at Milimani has allowed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to hold in custody six suspects, who include Kenya Defence Forces officers, for 10 days as detectives complete investigations into an alleged plot to rob Major General George Okumu. In a miscellaneous application, DCI officers sought to hold the suspects for 14 days at the Capitol Hill police station to allow for completion of investigations into the matter. Investigators told the court that the suspects are part of a suspected criminal syndicate comprising both military personnel and civilian accomplices. The court was informed that the arrests followed a week-long surveillance operation based on intelligence that indicated a planned robbery targeting Major General Okumu’s residence. A serving KDF officer based at Kahawa garrison, and another who is on interdiction, are among the suspects.
