Businesses in Busia Town were brought to a standstill on Wednesday as police engaged residents in running battles following violent protests over the killing of two people on Tuesday evening.
A section of youths took to the streets demanding justice, before police moved in to disperse them, with residents accusing officers of using excessive force.
However, the Busia County Police Service defended the action, saying officers were forced to open fire to stop a group of youths from looting businesses after they allegedly attempted to storm Busia Police Station.
