It began as a youth-led protest against the finance bill, but it quickly took a different turn as chaos consumed the city. In the heart of Nairobi, Sunbeam Mall on Mfangano Street went up in flames; a suspected arson attack by criminal elements who hijacked the Gen Z demonstrations. Businesses were destroyed, dreams reduced to ash, and three men lost their lives in the inferno. Now, a year later, their widows break their silence, still grappling with loss, as traders slowly pick up the pieces, trying to rebuild what was once their livelihood.
