Death toll from the SabaSaba protests climbs to 32

The death toll from the violent Saba Saba protests continues to rise, with yet another life lost. 24-year-old Denis Kimeu succumbed to his injuries Wednesday night while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital. His death brings to six the number of people killed in the Ngong area alone. Kimeu, described by relatives as an innocent bystander, has now become the latest symbol of a nation in turmoil. As his family grapples with the pain of losing a son, another family in Kangemi is caught in a cycle of grief and frustration. The scheduled autopsy of Paul Makori, who was fatally shot during Monday’s protests, was postponed after the government pathologist failed to show up under unclear circumstances.
