    Kenya continues to struggle in the fight against HIV, with rising rates of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) undermining the country’s efforts to earn World Health Organization (WHO) recognition. While Brazil recently achieved a historic milestone by reducing vertical transmission to below two per cent through strong political commitment and equitable access to healthcare, Kenya recorded a worrying increase in infections among newborns, threatening years of progress in maternal and child health.
