The government has moved to cushion learners in ASAL regions as food insecurity worsens following poor rainfall. The Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Children Services, Hanna Cheptumo, has launched emergency education support programmes targeting food and nutrition security.The intervention, implemented by the Child Welfare Society of Kenya, targets 24,000 secondary school students in 177 public schools across Kitui, Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Kisumu counties. The launch was held in Kitui, one of the regions hardest hit by drought.
