Two people have been shot dead, while a third remains hospitalized with serious gunshot wounds, following a clash between residents of Mukulusu village and officers from the Kenya Forest Service in Shinyalu, Kakamega County. The trouble reportedly began after a disagreement over the route a lorry carrying building sand should take when leaving a sand depot. Tensions escalated, leading to the deadly confrontation. As Kamau Mwangi reports, the incident comes on the same day the Nyeri Law Court granted investigators 14 more days to detain Peter Wamiti Mwangi, the police officer accused of fatally shooting a Karatina businessman, giving authorities additional time to conclude their investigations.
