In a major boost to the government’s ongoing disarmament campaigns in the Kerio Valley region, three illegal firearms were voluntarily surrendered in West Pokot on Tuesday evening, September 9, 2025.
The move is part of the national manesty program aimed at promoting peace and disarming bandits across the North Rift region, particularly in West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, and Turkana counties.
The surrendered weapons include an AK-47 rifle with seven rounds of ammunition, handed over by Geofrey Mutai of Chepkogogh Location, Lomut Ward; an FN rifle with one round of ammunition, surrendered by Ywakan Loripit Atodongiro,54, from Sekerot Location, Masol Ward, Pokot Central Sub-County; and another AK-47 rifle with four rounds of ammunition, turned in by Mriyo Atodongiro Tuimot,45.
The disarmament follows a recent Jukwaa la Usalama (Security forum) held in Kapenguria and attended by Cabinet Secretary for Internal, Hon. Kipchuma Murkomen, where government officical called on individulas in possession of illegal firearms to surrender them under the amnesty program.
