Amnesty accuses Kenyan government of using phone data to target protesters

Amnesty international says the Kenyan government used surveillance technology to track, arrest, and intimidate protesters alleging that the companies provided access to phone data used by security agencies. Among the companies is Safaricom that has denied any wrongdoing, telling amnesty international in its right-of-reply that it did not supply data unlawfully and maintaining that it adhered to all legal and regulatory requirements
