The government has cracked down on rogue labour recruitment agencies, with Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua saying a taskforce formed last year has so far concluded 15 cases, with files forwarded to investigators for action. The CS further added that police have launched a manhunt for a couple accused of fraudulently obtaining eighteen million shillings in government funds meant to facilitate overseas job placements, but instead allegedly diverting the money for personal use. Mutua says investigations are ongoing into more than 390 agencies suspected to be involved in labour mobility fraud, as authorities urge kenyans to verify if an agency is registered with the national employment authority before transacting any business with them.
