The Ministry of Energy has withdrawn a proposal by Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) to review electricity tariffs from July this year. The application, which was submitted to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) in March, had initiated a public participation process and raised the possibility of new electricity charges for consumers across the country. However, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has announced that the proposed review has been shelved, meaning the current electricity tariff structure will remain in force. The decision is expected to provide relief to households and businesses that had been bracing for possible changes in power costs.
