The Council of Governors (COG) has issued a stern warning to the National Treasury, demanding the immediate release of funds owed to county governments, or risk a nationwide shutdown of county operations within the next 30 days. Speaking after an extraordinary council meeting, COG Chairperson and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said that county governments are yet to receive their allocations for the current financial year. As at today, 63.6 billion shillings remains unpaid for the months October and November alone. But in quick rejoinder, National Treasury has denied owing counties any money saying the last tranche of 30.8 billion shilling was paid today.
