The government has today affirmed its commitment to fast track the construction of the 20 billion shilling Koru Soin Multipurpose Dam to harness water for irrigation and boost the country’s food security. Speaking after touring the site on Saturday, Water CS Zachary Njeru revealed that the dam will cut the cost of production at the West Kano Irrigation Scheme and incentivise farmers to put more land under irrigation. And as Laura Otieno reports, the completion of the dam is set to inject an additional 140,000 metric tonnes of rice to the national basket and cut down on importation.
