Rais wa Marekani Donald Trump Jumapili alidai kuwa serikali ya Afrika Kusini “inataifisha ardhi, na kuwatendea vibaya sana watu wa tabaka fulani.”
“Marekani haitavumilia hilo, tutachukua hatua. Pia nitakata ufadhili wote siku za usoni kwa Afrika Kusini mpaka uchunguzi kamili wa hali hii ukamilike,” Trump alisema.
Hatua ya Trump imekuja mara baada ya Rais wa Afrika Kusini Cyril Ramaphosa kusaini kuwa sheria mswaada wa Utaifishaji Ardhi unaofungua njia kwa serikali kutaifisha ardhi bila yakulipa fidia.
Sheria hiyo ina lengo kupambana na athari za kibaguzi za enzi ya ubaguzi wa rangi Afrika Kusini ambayo ilishuhudia wazungu wachache katika taifa hilo waliokuwa na umiliki mkubwa wa ardhi.
Mamlaka nchini Afrika Kusini zilimjibu Trump Jumatatu nakueleza kuwa sheria hiyo “siyo chombo cha kutaifisha ardhi, lakini ni mchakato wa kisheria uliopitishwa kikatiba ambao unauhakikisha umma unapata ardhi katika usawa na haki kama inavyoongozwa na Katiba.”
Akizungumza wakati wa sherehe za viwanda Jumatatu, Waziri wa Madini wa Afrika Kusini, Gwede Mantashe, alitoa wito wakukabiliana na vitisho vya Trump. Mantashe alisema Trump ana “yaoneya” mataifa madogo kwa sababu “wao ni taifa kubwa.”“Lazima tupinge hilo,” waziri wa madini alisema. - Reuters
