With the 2027 elections drawing closer, opposition leaders are warning that rising goonism and violence during polls must be urgently addressed to safeguard Kenya’s democracy. Speaking at the burial of former Mbooni Member of Parliament Joseph Munyao in Makueni County, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAPK Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa, and Democratic Party Leader Justin Muturi cautioned that recent by-elections, marred by chaos, are a clear warning that electoral reforms are urgently needed ahead of 2027. The funeral briefly turned tense when Labour Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua was heckled while reading the President’s condolence message, forcing presiding Archbishop Dr. Timothy Ndambuki to step in and calm the crowd. Opposition leaders remembered Munyao as a statesman committed to peace and democracy.
