Police officer arraigned over death of George Gathu

    Administration police constable Peter Wamiti Mwangi, will remain in police custody for the next 14 days, to allow the independent Policing and oversight authority conclude its investigations into the alleged shooting of Karatina businessman George Gathu Appearing before Senior resident magistrate Mary Gituma of the Nyeri law courts, the investigators sought 21 days to detain the officer on grounds that his security was still at risk following public anger stirred by the shooting. The prosecution also argue that the suspect is likely to interfere with witnesses, if he was released on cash bail. Wamiti is expected back in court on February 3rd, when he is expected to take plea. Human Rights defenders have sought for speedy and accurate investigations, to ensure justice is served to the family of the deceased.
