Police shooting in Karatina sparks highway protest; IPOA launches probe

Tension remains high in Karatina, Nyeri County, following the Sunday night fatal shooting of a businessman by a police officer. George Gathu is said to have been shot following an altercation with an administration police officer. Transport and business operations were, for the better part of Monday, temporarily disrupted as business operators in the town held protests. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has taken over investigations into the case.
