The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by secretary general Omar Hassan has come to the defense of president William Ruto against claims by the opposition that he mishandled the fuel crisis. The party rejected calls for mass action, arguing that Kenyans are facing a global crisis and that any demonstrations should be directed at international actors not the Kenyan government. The party says the government did its best in cushioning Kenyans through a 6.2 billion shillings subsidy under the petroleum development levy and a reduction of vat on fuel from 16% to 8%, helping stabilise prices at about 197.60 shillings for petrol and Ksh 196.63 for diesel
