The claim of a "Christian genocide" in Nigeria has shaped US policy and sparked military action, but does the evidence support the narrative? #BBCAfricaEye investigates. Click here to subscribe to our channel 👉🏽 http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica Nigeria is home to some of the world’s deadliest and most complex conflicts. Insurgencies, banditry, communal tensions and criminality are all on the rise, driven by decades of state failure. Although both Christians and Muslims have died in their thousands, online commentaries have led to an increasingly influential narrative: that Nigeria's Christians are the victims of a coordinated genocide driven solely by religion. Nigeria: Faith, Fear and Fake News investigates how claims of genocide spread from advocacy groups and social media into mainstream political discourse, influencing US policymakers and sparking military action. Filmed in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, “ground zero” of the alleged genocide, this documentary asks a difficult question: does the genocide label explain the crisis, or does it obscure a far more complex reality? And who benefits when the suffering of Nigerians is reframed to serve ideological and political agendas far beyond the country's borders? 00:00 Nigeria: extraordinary diversity, extraordinary violence 01:44 Meeting Adejuwon: the online disinformation landscape 02:39 Inside the Global Disinformation Unit 04:50 US launches military strike 05:27 Plateau State: the centre of alleged Christian genocide 07:08 The Palm Sunday massacre 11:43 Violence and disinformation reach the University of Jos 14:32 Masara Kim: activist and conflict reporter 18:39 Who is behind the violence? 22:28 Has the government failed to keep people safe? 27:37 When truth becomes a battleground 🎥 Check out all Africa Eye investigations here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLajyiGz4JeyO2qgCvioQO-BzP1XCajJqt 🎞️ Watch more investigative journalism from our award-winning #BBCEye investigations team at this documentary playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz_B0PFGIn4fa8LK1lptsvoA_spfJhzda 📽️ You may also be interested in watching these Africa Eye documentaries: https://youtu.be/g-fPEHUqhyA https://youtu.be/xVrUb7xwRcA https://youtu.be/UZZVQxjXWCg https://youtu.be/Ce2J5JPTuqI https://youtu.be/QPB42_uLLh0 Subscribe: http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica Website: https://www.bbc.com/africa Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bbcnewsafrica/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/bbcafrica/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bbcafrica/ #Nigeria #Documentary #BBCAfrica #Christian #Muslim #InvestigativeJournalism
