The Nyanza region records a minimum of 70 child defilement cases every month, with figures rising to over 100 in some months, Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa has said, warning that sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) is fuelling teenage pregnancies, school dropouts and HIV infections.
Mworoa was speaking on Tuesday at the first Seme Sub-county Multi-Stakeholder Conference on SGBV, convened amid growing concern over rising defilement cases and teenage pregnancies, particularly in Seme, one of the hardest-hit areas in the region.
