Patients in Samburu benefit from free fistula treatment

Meanwhile, women from Samburu Sub-county are among hundreds of beneficiaries of the fistula foundation efforts to combat the Obstetric fistula disorder. The residents were offered free consultations, screenings, and treatment. Safina Ramadhan, Bomu’s Fistula Coordinator noted that major challenges were the lack of awareness about fistula, transportation costs, misunderstandings and lack of support from their husbands which contributes to delays in women receiving the necessary help and medical care. Fistula Foundation and Bomu Hospital began the initiative in 2015 and have successfully treated over 500 women.
