Idadi ya vifo katika hija ya mwaka 2024 ni watu 1,301, waziri wa afya wa Saudi Arabia Fahad Al-Jalajel alisema Jumapili (Juni 23).
Waziri huyo, alinukuliwa na kituo cha televisheni cha taifa, akisema kuwa vifo hivyo vilisababishwa na mahujaji “kutembea mwendo mrefu katika jua bila kuwa na kivuli na mapumziko ya kutosha”.
Vifo hivyo ni pamoja na idadi ya watu wazee na wale wanaosumbuliwa na maradhi sungu. Kiasi cha asilimia 83 cha vifo hivyo vilikuwa kati ya wale waliokuwa hawajaruhusiwa kuhiji, alisema. - Reuters
