President William Ruto has announced that Kenya will modernise Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and construct a new airport starting in 2026, signaling a major shift in the country’s infrastructure and economic development agenda. Speaking in Nairobi during the Matuga Clinker Line contract signing on December 16, 2025, Ruto said aviation infrastructure will be central to positioning Kenya as a first-world economy and a regional logistics hub, with Sh5 trillion set aside for logistics, transport, energy, and irrigation.
