Nairobi now leads in new HIV cases nationwide

Nairobi County now leads in new HIv infections in the country .Data from the national syndemic disease control council shows that in the last one year, Nairobi recorded more than 3,000 new HIV infections out of the 19,991 cases reported nationwide. The report shows new infections have risen by 19 percent, up from 16,752 to 19,991. Nearly half of all new infections were concentrated in just eight counties: Nairobi, Migori, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Busia, Siaya, Kakamega, and Nakuru. The data further reveals that infections remain highest among youth aged 15 to 34, who form the bulk of new cases. Meanwhile, AIDS-related deaths increased to 21,007 in the same period.
