Unpaid care work worth Sh2.54 trillion

Unpaid domestic and care work is now emerging as a hidden pillar of the economy. A new report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reveals that the labour of caring for children, the elderly, and households, mostly performed by women, could be contributing almost as much to the country’s GDP as agriculture. The findings also expose the deep gender gap that continues to define household work in Kenya.
