A study conducted by the regional education learning initiative shows that only 43% of adolescents aged between 13 and 17 years can read, while out of those only 15% can read in English. The study conducted across 20 counties paints a worrying trend of low literacy and competency skills among adolescents. The study also found that only 5% of those sampled have any problem solving skills. Education stakeholders have asked the government to build the capacity of teachers to help learners develop and nurture core competencies and life skills under the CBC
