Investigators reveal suffocation and arson in Utumishi Girls fire tragedy

    Preliminary investigations into the Utumishi Girls Academy fatal fire have established that 10 of the victims died from suffocation due to choking smoke, while six were burnt beyond recognition. Detectives have also established that the suspects allegedly used mattresses to ignite the fire. The eight learners suspected of planning and executing the arson attack are being held for a second night in custody across three different police stations. Meanwhile, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has emphasized the need to address the spiritual well-being of young people in a bid to prevent similar tragedies.
