Wajir hosts historic Madaraka Day celebrations

For the first time in Kenya’s history, a national celebration was taken to the country’s northern frontier as Wajir County hosted this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations. Beyond the speeches and State ceremony, the event offered Kenyans a rare glimpse into the rich culture, traditions and heritage of the northern region. From colourful traditional dances to the presidential gift of 100 camels, the celebrations carried a distinctly northern flavour.
